Just as a three-syllable Italian word – ‘Ferrari’ – instantly conjures sporting charisma in the world of cars, another such word – ‘Ducati’ – does the same for motorcycles. ‘Sport’ had been a favourite Ducati model descriptor since the 1950 introduction of the 60 Sport with its brave top speed of 70km/h! Who could have predicted that from such a humble beginning, Ducati motorcycles would become world-beaters within a single generation? The celebrated Super Sports were derived from the Sport, which traces its inspiration back to the early days of Ducati.
