The Atlas engine was the mainstay of the Norton range in the 1960s, not only powering the company's famous motorcycles built at Bracebridge Street and later Plumstead, but also a number of Matchless motorcycles and racing and motocross hybrids. The Norton Atlas Café Racer was fitted with a 750cc version of the Atlas engine and was the Superbike of its era, employing many features of the racing Manx models, such as their famous Featherbed frame and trademark styling. For many enthusiasts, it remains the ultimate road-going Norton.
