Replacing the Mk IV, which owed its design to the late 1930s, t he Mk V was the first true Post War Jaguar, distinguished by a new chassis, independent front suspension and smaller 16-inch wheels.
As part of this transition, the headlamps were partially integrated into the sweeping front mudguards and steel wheels replaced the spindly wire wheels of its predecessor, creating a much more modern, yet harmonious look. At the same time, the interior lost none of its traditional Jaguar elegance and the Mk V's interior was beautifully appointed with real wood cappings and plush leather upholstery.
The Drop Head Coupe was particularly elegant, and as it was produced in relatively low numbers, remains particularly rare and collectable. The Mk V's pace matched its grace and space, thanks to a larger twin carburetor 3.5 litre motor replacing the previous model's rather breathless 2.5 litre power plant, making comfortable cruising at 100km/h a reality and giving the car a top speed of over 150km/h.
