Description
After the war the Enfield Cycle Company came back with the last pre-war models. In 1949 the first new models were introduced: the 500 twin (500cc full sprung parallel twin) and the 350cc full sprung Bullet. Later models followed, like the 700cc Meteor (1955), and in April 1958 the Meteor Minors were announced, and with them came a higher performance 700, the Constellation, quickly nicknamed 'Connie' by enthusiasts. The Constellation's engine was based on the Super Meteor unit, with new pistons fitted increasing the compression ratio to 8.5:1, a TT carburettor and siamezed exhaust system developing 51bhp at 6,250rpm. Similarly to the 500 twin, a new frame was employed to accommodate the 700 and its power. The tanks were finished in chrome plating with a painted broad stripe. The mudguards were also chrome plated, the frame and forks were Black and the centre section lids matched the tank stripe.
