When introduced the Bentley 4-litre was something of a break with tradition for the company in having an F-head (overhead inlet and side exhaust valves) in-line six-cylinder engine with a cast-iron block and detachable head. There was a four-speed manual gearbox with single dry-plate clutch, four-wheel drum braking and the retained semi-elliptic suspension design. Built on two chassis lengths (134 or 140-inch), most 4-litre chassis were clothed in saloon coachwork by the likes of H.J. Mulliner, Thrupp & Maberly, Freestone & Webb, and Gurney Nutting. The Bentley 4-litre was one of the rarest of all W.O. Bentleys, with a mere 50 being made- it is believed that around 35 survive today.
