Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) was the officially designated performance vehicle partner of former Australian manufacturer, Holden. Established in 1987 and based in Clayton, Victoria, the company modified Holden models such as the Commodore, long-wheelbase Caprice, and commercial Ute for domestic and export sale. The HSV GTS was a high-performance sedan based on the mainstream Commodore, and was originally introduced in 1992 with the VP series, and then variants followed across the subsequent VR, VS, VT, VX, Y-series, E-series, and Gen-F. The VR series HSV models benefited from a more cohesive and stylish body design thanks to the work of world-renowned designer Ian Callum, while the GTS included a 5.7-litre Harrop stroked version of the ubiquitous V8 producing 215 kW. The VS series GTS of 1995 introduced mild styling tweaks and a new three-spoke alloy wheel design, plus new colours were introduced, there was a carbon-effect trim panel on the centre console, seatbelt webbing was now matched to the interior colour, there was an embossed signature on the interior trim, and sundry other detail changes made.
