The Holden was Australia's own car of the 1950s, the relatively compact six-cylinder sedan finding a happy medium between the smaller British and larger American cars and proved immensely popular with local buyers. The original design was restyled in 1956 as the FE series and this in turn evolved into the FC in May 1958, a mildly face-lifted model whose exterior changes were limited to additional chrome strips on the sides and rear wings, along with a new grille. All FC models were powered by a 132-cubic-inch (2.2 L) six-cylinder engine producing 72 bhp (54 kW). This engine was carried over from the FE series, although the camshaft was altered, the compression ratio was increased and torque was improved. A larger fuel tank and minor tweaks to the suspension completed the package and the FC was again sold in sedan, station wagon, utility or panel van configurations. With classic 1950s styling inside and out, sturdy mechanicals and sadly, increasing rarity, the FC Holden is an excellent proposition as a classic car that can be enjoyed on a daily basis.
