In October 1977 Holden introduced its HZ range with Radial Tuned Suspension. The HZ was the final series that began in July 1971 with the HQ. The key to understanding the significance of the HZ lies in those three words ‘Radial Tuned Suspension’, conveniently shortened to the acronym RTS. The HZ Holdens handled dramatically better than any of their predecessors with little or no sacrifice of ride quality. They were also better equipped with the new Kingswood SL boasting front bucket seats, carpet and a pushbutton radio. (Doubtless, many buyers had some trouble choosing between the new, smaller Commodore and this upgraded Kingswood.) The entry level Belmont offered outstanding value for money and the utes were highly favoured by workers who had been well served by Holdens through the years.
