1987 Chevrolet Corvette 'Callaway' Convertible (LHD)

Description

Chevrolet engaged Reeves Callaway to develop a Corvette upgrade to be available through all Chevrolet dealers. Callaway had done a great job on the Alfa Romeo V6 engine and the executives at Chevy wanted something similar (the Corvette product planners having long learnt to look to Europe for inspiration!). This was to be the first time that any General Motors division had outsourced such an option with full factory backing including warranty. Known as the RPO-B2K package, this was a significant upgrade indeed, adding $19,995 to the $27,999 coupe or $33,172 convertible. Twin turbochargers were at the heart of the formula. New engine internals included forged pistons, crankshaft, better lubrication system and four-bolt main bearing caps. A secondary injection system was required to retain the emissions levels. So the Corvette with the Callaway upgrade is a very serious sports car indeed with ultra-high performance.
