When Jaguar Cars acquired Daimler in 1960, it gained two brilliant V8 engines newly designed by Edward Turner. The larger 4.5-litre unit was slipped beneath the long bonnet of the Majestic to create the fearsomely fast Majestic Major, while the jewel-like 2.5-litre V8 from its SP-250 sports car fitted beautifully into the Mark 2 bodyshell with a Daimler fluted grille and differentiating badgework and the unique sports sedan that resulted was known simply as the Daimler 2.5-Litre. This very distinctive Daimler is the rarest of all Mark 2 variants. It is truly a joy to take the wheel of what for all the world looks like another six-cylinder Jaguar of the day and hear the fruity burble of that V8 engine: this of itself makes the 2.5 a true Daimler!
