Chrysler Australia launched its new 245 cubic-inch and 265 cubic-inch Hemi sixes with the 1970 VG range of Valiants and brought legendary racer Stirling Moss out to Australia to spruik the performance and economy benefits of the hemispherical cylinder head in particular and the VG Valiant range in general. Although the elegant Hardtop Coupe was not a big seller when new, it is now well established among the ranks of all-time collectible Valiants with its unique US-style large two-door design. The original VF Pacer was a four-door sedan but with VG the Pacer was only available in Hardtop configuration and in this guise was highly visible in the 1970 Bathurst 500. In some respects the two-door Valiant Hardtops parallel Ford Australia’s XM and XP Falcon Hardtops and the later XA/XB/XC models, having become much more popular with the passing of the years.
