Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) was of course the officially designated performance vehicle division of Holden before General Motors closed its manufacturing outpost in Australia. Established in 1987 and based in Clayton, Victoria, HSV modified Holden models such as the standard wheelbase Commodore, long wheelbase Caprice and commercial Ute for domestic and export sale. HSV also modified other non-Holden cars within the General Motors portfolio in low volumes. The HSV GTS was based on the Commodore sedan introduced in 1992 with the VP series and then subsequently in the VR, VS, VT, VX, VY, VE and VF (as here) models. HSV’s Gen-F models were based on the VF Commodore and went on sale in 2013, with production running through to 2017, the final year of local production. The Gen-F HSV GTS-R became the most powerful production car ever produced in Australia, with 435 kW and 740 Nm of torque from its supercharged 6.2 litre LSA Chevrolet V8. This ultimate-but-one Holden model brought with it a bi-modal exhaust, revised semi-active Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and six-piston mono-block AP Racing brake package with cross-drilled rotors. It sat on 20in GTS-R embossed Hyper Dark wheels. Visually, the GTS-R wore unique LED daylight running lights, new front bumper and splitter, wider front fenders with new venting, restyled rear bumper with new diffuser and diamond-shaped exhaust tips, plus an Aeroflow rear spoiler. Matt black accents completed the visual package. Inside, there was diamond-quilted Alcantara trim with leather bolsters and red twin-needle stitched highlights, GTS-R logoed headrests, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearlever, and eight-way power-adjustable Podium front bucket seats. GTS-R branded floormats, sill plates, EDI start-up screen and ID plates completed the interior. With Holden now confined to the annals of history, these very special HSV models are becoming ever more collectible.
